THINGS TO DO
If you’re heading to Wisconsin for the first time, you’re about to discover a place where Midwest charm meets unexpected cool. Late April brings that sweet seasonal shift: patios reopen, bikes hit the trails, and the smell of beer-battered fish is officially in the air.
But don’t let the cheesehead stereotypes fool you—Wisconsin has layers. And Milwaukee is a great place to start peeling them back. Pack a jacket, bring your appetite, and leave room in your suitcase for cheese, bobbleheads, and maybe a few “unexpected Wisconsin” stories of your own.
What to Expect:
- Temperatures in the high 40s to low 60s (perfect for layering)
- Migrating birds, and the early start to wildflowers and budding trees
- The official reappearance of beer gardens and outdoor farmers markets
Sure we’re known for our friendliness and Friday fish frys – but Wisconsin has earned serious bragging rights across the board. Whether it’s food, drink or travel accolades, the state consistently shows up on national “best of” lists. Basically, we’re humble but have the chops.
- #1 cheese-producing state in the United States (and the only one with a Master Cheesemaker program – think PhD-level dairy deliciousness). Wisconsin cheeses aren’t only plentiful, they regularly win awards on a global level.
- From communities of 500 to 500,000, Wisconsin chefs and restaurants regularly receive national recognition with James Beard Award nominations and wins. While you’re here, grab a bite at Milwaukee’s James Beard nominated and award-winning spots.
- Milwaukee is routinely named as a top destination, from Conde Nast Traveler to Lonely Planet. During your stay uncover some of the reasons why it’s ranked as one of the best big cities in the US.
- BONUS: You may be surprised to learn Milwaukee’s theater district has the most theater seats per capita in the nation!
- World-Class Golf is accessible and championship worthy, as Wisconsin boasts 10 courses on Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Public Courses in America list – more than any other state! In fact, Erin Hills will host the U.S. Women’s Open Championship later this year.
- BONUS: You’ll see championship level courses up-close-and-personal with an exclusive stop at Black Wolf Run in Kohler before the Draft!

- We take our supper clubs and fish frys seriously. These aren’t just meals—they’re cultural events. And yes, there will be a relish tray.
- You’ll find some of the best frozen custard in the country. It’s creamier and denser than ice cream, and Milwaukee is its capital.
- The Bloody Marys are entire meals. In some spots, they’re topped with cheese, sausage, shrimp, fried chicken, or a burger. Oh, yeah, and the usual suspects, olives, celery and a pickle.
- There’s a National Bobblehead Museum and it’s in Milwaukee. Over 10,000 bobbleheads from sports, movies, and pop culture are on display at this unique spot. (Keep your eyes out for a Bobby Portis bobblehead that’s 3 feet tall!)
- People tailgate. You’ll find fans grilling hours before a game, from college to professional sports. Even in April. Even if it’s 50 degrees. You’ll see this culture come to life with Thursday’s tailgate experience at Kohler Wisconsin’s Black Wolf Run.
- We’re big on brandy. Wisconsin drinks more brandy per capita than any other state—especially in our beloved Old Fashioneds.
- There’s a beach. Lots of them. In Milwaukee you’ll see the fresh coast vibes in action, mixing skyline views and sandy feet at Bradford Beach on Lake Michigan.

Iconic architecture, stunning collection and lakeshore views, need we say more?
